Advertising space is intentionally limited on changetheworld. We want to provide our users a great experience, so we don't overload it with irrelevant advertising. Instead, we provide our citizens the tools to help them focus their efforts in coordinated projects, toward making beneficial change.

As an advertiser, this means that you reach an engaged and mobilized audience, a community of outreach leaders, not followers, people who care about and influence their community in a host of active ways. They're not spending time watching television or listening to the radio. They're donating time, money and effort in their local community and online, changing the world for the better. If you've found it difficult to reach sufficient numbers of these people through traditional advertising, you won't anymore; you'll find them eager participants. You'll find them here.

ADVERTISING

Here are some of the ways we interact with our citizens to deliver your message:

  • Email - we have a growing database of members that include demographic, psychographic and geographic targeting. You can now reach all or just specific sub-segments of our population.
  • Sponsorships - we have many ways of providing branding on key sections and within specific categories or projects. These are generally exclusive sponsorships that are relevant to the section or project, such as consumer beverages being matched to water projects around the world.
  • Contextual advertising placements - since relevance is such an important factor in effective advertising, we have partnered with a technology provider that allows your text ads to be matched to the keywords or interests of users looking at specific pages.
  • Search keywords - in addition to contextual placements, we can also match your ad to specific words or phrases that users look for, just like Google and Yahoo! do.

Important factors about advertising with changetheworld:

  1. Our users are smart, educated, sophisticated, international and very internet-savvy. They embrace and respond to brands that share their goals of doing good in the world. They do not respond to direct marketers looking for a quick ROI. They are hard to convince but once you do that, they become your most active brand champions. The word of mouth and viral effect of advertising on changetheworld is a very powerful tool when positioned properly.
  2. We don't yet have a published rate card. We'd rather discuss your objectives and come up with a cost-effective program that matches your needs (both branding and philanthropic, in case you have separate budgets).
  3. changetheworld can accept barter in the form of goods and/or services for advertising, as well as money. If you have a surplus of specific products or availability of services, such as flights, hotel reservations, timeshares or whatever, we can receive the full value of those in return for sponsorships or advertising.
